So this weekend after visiting my stepdad Joe in the Alzheimer’s nursing home (tragic), me and mom went to see "Walk the Line." Loved it. Joaquin Phoenix was awesome…he totally did justice to the Man in Black. Reese was adorable as always. I thought they had great chemistry. Anyway, sad story turns happy in the case of Johnny Cash.
Then I read Heavier Than Heaven, the Kurt Cobain biography. Not so happy. I must confess I’m STILL pretty broken up about Kurt. I remember reading the news about how he was hospitalized in Rome for mixing pills and alcohol, and knowing he was gonna kill himself, that it was just a matter of time.
I don’t know how it was in other parts of the country/world, but living in Seattle when a body was discovered in the Cobain house and waiting and waiting and just hoping against hope that it wasn’t Kurt was freaking terrible. And KNDD kept playing Nirvana songs and all the lyrics took on this whole new awfulness…especially stuff like "I don’t have a gun."
Bleh. Good book though. I highly recommend it. Don’t you think "Heart Shaped Box" is one of the most perfect songs ever recorded? Do you remember where you were when you heard about Kurt? Does anyone care anymore?

I was at Rock Bottom Brewery in Minneapolis, MN. I found out as soon as I walked in and one of my coworkers came up to me upset. (she was an insanely huge fan)
I was at the pool hall, just out of work. I was stunned to say the least, as most of Austin was.
I was only 12 at the time and was a fan. I heard the news on my local radio station (KROQ) and immediatly began to weep.
I do remember exactly when, where, and which persons were with me when I started listening to Nirvana (therefore became a fan). This would be a long story to tell, but alas! he was already dead when I put my hands on my best friend’s Nevermind tape. I missed the whole Nirvana thing by early 90’s because of *soooo coool* Ice MC -bom diggydiggydiggy bom diggy bom- (still laughing when I watch Trainspotting).
Honestly don’t remember where I was when I heard the news, probably saw it on MTV or something. I do remember being in school when it happened and how tons of people were just in a daze.
