words about words

No, I don’t mean the game. How’s this for scary…? I went to the optometrist this morning and she told me that because I wear my contact lenses 14-16 hours a day my corneas are starving for oxygen, so that blood vessels have starting growing INTO MY CORNEAS in a desperate search for air! How sick is that? I have tentacles inside my eyeballs!  Luckily, she said they’ll probably suck back down if I let my eyes breathe.

I also ordered some brown contacts in addition to the regular clear kind. So I can be a Brown Eyed Girl!

Wow I have never heard of that happening to someones eyes before.  Is it a common occurance?

  2. Christa says:

Yeah I guess it’s pretty common. Especially since they make those contacts that you can sleep in and wear for weeks at a time. GROSS

  3. Rob says:

Yeah, it’s pretty common if you wear your contacts and fall asleep with them.  I eventually opted for the monthly wears because I always wore my other contacts way too much.

You got to watch that, TriX.  About 5 years ago I got an ulcer on my cornea from wearing mine non stop.  Had to do steroid eye drops for a while to clear it up.

    Hi!
The exakt same thing happened to me. But now I use these 24 h contacts that lets more oxygen through, but I still take them off before I go to bed. Works fine for me 🙂

Wow.  That’s creepy.  Being a glasses guy (at least for now), I’m planning on the laser route.

I was so blind before my laser surgery. I did it in 2001 and never looked back. I have 20/20 sight.. and I was -9 diopters before. Talk about a big change. My eyes were always starved for air in contacts.

Jellyfish would be my input.  I had an issue where my eyes were getting red and hurting just after 30 minutes of putting a new set of contacts in.  The dr. indicated that the generic solution I was using from Wal-Mart appeared to be making some kind of bumpy deposits on my eyelids (that looked like little jellyfish).  They were scratching up against my contacts and eyes causing irritation.  ….I had to go for over a year of not wearing my contacts and using some kind of eyedrops until they went away.  Sucked big time having to wear my nerdy glasses.

hey trix…MSFT is offering Lasik discounts in 2007 as part of the health care plan.  I’m gonna do it.  You do it too.  Dont be a chickenshit 🙂
