I have a decent amount of respect for journalists. I aspired to be one before becoming a corporate sell-out. But DAMN, what is up with the news this morning?
AP headlines declared Shamu attacked a trainer. Or as CNN puts it: "Kids, moms freak when Shamu attacks" Oh crap, I think, clicking on the story. Turns out it wasn’t Shamu, but some other freaking killer whale: Kasatka. Hi, mistaken identity? Do they ‘all look the same’? Or has "Shamu" become the Kleenex of killer whales? Lazy.
Some news outlets are still claiming Shamu did it. If the glove don’t fit, you must acquit.

Is the original Shamu still alive? Because I saw him/her back at Sea World Orlando in the SEVENTIES (yes, I am that old)!
I heard that Shamu is releasing a book next week on the incident, entitled, "I didn’t attack that trainer, but if I did…here’s how I’d do it."
Just another example of the media perpetrating stereotypes. Why does it always have to be Shamu that is portrayed poorly in the media? Shamu is lazy, Shamu beats his kids, and Shamu is always drunk. Shame on U
To be fair, there are multiple Shamus. We have a Shamu at the San Antonio Seaworld and when I saw the show they had two killer whales. After the show was done, I wasn’t sure which one was supposed to be Shamu.
If the mouth has no shoe, it wasn’t Shamu.

…and to think I had breakfast with that whale!
As Hazumi said…or more implied, referred to, or something like that…Shamu is just a name that each Sea World uses for the "lead" orca in their main show. As I was told on the Orlando backstage tour, there is no Shamu. They’re all Shamu. Deep, isn’t it?
